“Ours is not the task of fixing the entire world all at once, but of stretching out to mend the part of the world that is within our reach... One of the most calming and powerful actions you can do to intervene in a stormy world is to stand up and show your soul...”
Welcome!
Like many people I work with, I am an experiential learner; so I invite my clients to develop their own curiosity around their experience in treatment; develop their senses and vocabulary within their bodies, and evolve their capacity to relax and tune into themselves.
My early life was rooted in Phnom Penh, Cambodia and uprooted regularly to visit the US. Through our community in Cambodia I learned about bodywork in the form of Shiatsu and reflexology, gua sha and cupping, which became a regular part of life for pain management for my family members. The accessibility and normalcy of these styles of body care became formative experiences for me.
I began my working life teaching elementary art and ESL in Cambodia at a bi-lingual school. This developed a foundation of curiosity for nurturing and facilitating creative development in a hands-on way with diverse groups of people. I’ve worked in early education and childcare as a classroom assistant, reading aide, nursery teacher, and nanny to kiddos age 3 months-17. That curiosity and nurturing energy flowed into studying massage therapy, communication, ethics, writing and creating more visual art.
As a massage therapist and visual communicator I seek to understand the people and places I come in contact with. As a new mother, I have deep empathy for the complexity of the perinatal experience, the taxing nature of loving small ones, and the needs of parents and caregivers.
My cross cultural upbringing and personal healing journey drew me to many of the styles of bodywork I now practice, and gave me some of the language and tools I share with others.
My LMT career began at Watershed Wellness, an interdisciplinary Chinese medicine clinic in Portland, OR in 2015. I launched my first private practice in 2018 at Lake Oswego Adult Community Center with a focus in bodywork for caregivers and aging bodies, while completing a supervised externship for Trauma Touch Therapy. During this time I worked at the OSM Professional Clinic, supporting newly licensed Massage Therapists and developing my skills with a diverse group of clients.
Since 2020 I have honed my rehabilitative skills in chiropractic settings with motor vehicle accident recovery and with veterans dealing with chronic pain, injury recovery, and mind-body care.
In 2022 I reopened my practice and rebranded while working as a PT Aide at Orthopedic and TMJ Physical Therapy with a focus on TMD related care and rehabilitative exercise.
Through these experiences I have learned to work in collaboration with other experts to best serve, educate and support the people in my care.
Often times people come in because there is one area of pain or disfunction louder than the rest. My work is to show up to that place with the whole body and being held in mind.
Like many, Mary is a Portland transplant. She’s been licensed and practicing massage therapy since 2015. She shares life with her husband and baby girl, cats and community in the beautiful PNW.
